How to Fix Lifted Lace Front? Quick & Easy Solutions

How to Fix Lifted Lace Front

When I started installing lace front wigs myself, I learned several hacks to help me get by and achieve the best results I could. One of those hacks was for fixing lifted lace fronts.

Many times, we style our lace front wigs only to notice that they are lifting. That can be annoying, especially after spending hours installing. But there’s always a way out:

Let’s fix it.

In this post, I’ll share my hack for fixing a lifted lace front and even show you how to lay your lace flat without glue. Are you ready? Because I am.

Let’s go!

Why Does Your Lace Front Lift?

Before we discuss the solution to a lifting lace, let’s see some of the reasons why our lace front lifts in the first place.

Why Does Your Lace Front Lift

There are many reasons that can cause your lace front to lift, including sweat. Check out the reasons below.

1. Improper Installation

The first thought everyone has when their lace frontal lifts are “I failed to install it properly”. I’m afraid to say, but sometimes, it’s actually true. If you fail to install your lace well, it will eventually lift.

This could be due to making minor mistakes here and there. Maybe you forgot to clean your skin with alcohol, or you applied too much glue. It could also be that you applied enough, but didn’t allow it to dry completely. Those reasons can be the cause of your lifting lace.

2. Stretched Lace

Another reason why your lace lifted could be that it is already stretched beyond normal. Stretched lace can happen with washing it too much or tension. What this results in is your wig always lifting from the skin. So, no matter the amount of glue you apply, it will definitely fail.

3. Installing a Small Wig

If your lace front wig is too small, it may not sit properly on your hairline, causing it to lift after a day or two.

The tension from the small cap also plays a role, as it pulls the lace away from your skin. However, you can make it work by adjusting the cap. Cut it around the ear tabs. That way, it will sit properly on your hairline. Better still, you can purchase a high-quality lace front wig that sizes you from reliable stores like Hermosa Hair.

4. Sweat, Oil, and Product Buildup

Makeup residue, glue from previous installations, sweat, and product buildup can cause your lace to lift, especially in humid weather.

These things break down the glue, making it lose its grip quickly. They weaken the bond that should keep your lace wig glued and flat on your skin. This is why you must properly clean your skin and even the wig before installation.

A Step-By-Step Guide on How to Fix Lifted Lace Front

There is an easy way to fix your lifted lace front. Simply follow the steps below to handle the situation easily and effectively. No need to panic, it’ll turn out just fine.

Step 1: Gather the Tools You’ll Need

Some of the things that will help you fix your lifted lace include:

- Lace adhesive or hair spray

- Rubbing alcohol

- A rattail comb

- Cotton swabs

- A small brush

- A blow dryer

Step 2: Clean the Surface/Hairline

Clean the SurfaceHairline

With some cotton swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol, clean your hairline, which is the lace area, and the underside of the lace.

Make sure the glue comes off as you clean with the cotton swab. While you do that, you can also use your finger to remove the residues. This will help you clean the oil, product buildup, and dirt.

Step 3: Apply Your Adhesive

Apply Your Adhesive

Gently lift the lace wig up, then apply your glue to your hairline with your brush. Create just a thin layer, then leave it to air dry. If you’re in a hurry, you can dry with a blow dryer.

Other adhesives or products that work are tapes and hairspray. But be sure you’re applying a thin layer. And for your tape, simply cut small strips and apply them to the underside of your lace wig.

Step 4: Another Layer

Once the first layer dries a bit, add another layer and wait till it dries again. Check to see if it’s become tacky, then use your rattail comb to press the lace into the glue.

Make sure it is tacky before pressing your lace down. This will ensure it sticks and doesn’t lift after a while.

(Oh, skip this if you'll be using tapes).

Step 5: Melt the Lace One Last Time

Melt the Lace One Last Time

Keep pressing the wig down to allow it to stick and melt properly. Afterwards, use your blow dryer on a low setting and blow-dry your hairline or the area where you’ve glued your lace wig. This is to ensure it lies flat without lifting, and it creates a strong bond.

You can also use a melting band instead of your blow dryer for this step. The band also helps to create a natural hairline and makes sure it stays securely. Leave the band for 5-10 minutes, then remove it gently.

Step 6: Style Your Wig

The final step is to style your lace front wig again. This time, be careful not to pull on your wig. Once it is properly glued, it shouldn’t lift at all.

How to Lay Lace Flat without Glue?

Are you aware that your lace can also lie flat without glue, and won’t lift or move an inch? Of course, it can. If you want to fix your lifted lace on a glueless wig, I’ve gathered some other methods. Take a look at how you can lay your lace with these various methods.

1. Foaming Mousse

Foaming Mousse

The first method on the list is using foaming mousse. Gather your gluing products: mousse, a wig grip band, a hot comb, and a silk scarf.

- Ensure your hair is nicely braided to create a flat foundation.

- Now, wear your wig cap, and apply the foaming mousse to your edges or hairline.

- Use your brush to blend the product on your hairline and press your wig onto the product.

- With your hot comb, press the lace down to ensure it melts properly into the skin.

- Tie a silk scarf over the area and leave it for 15-20 minutes.

- Go ahead and style after you take off the scarf.

2. A Lace Tape

A Lace Tape

An alternative method that’s easy and less stressful is using wig tape. This double-sided adhesive product allows you to lay your lace front flat without the need for glue.

Simply clean the area you’ll be applying the product with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, then cut the lace tape to fit your hairline and press the tape onto your hairline.

Remove the paper on the other side and attach it to the lace of the wig.

Make sure you position your wig and even the tape properly, then keep pressing every side to make sure it stays and lies flat. You can make it lie nicely further by tying a melting band around your hairline for a few minutes.

3. A Wig Grip

A Wig Grip

Aside from the two methods above, you can also use a wig grip to achieve a flat lace wig style without glue. It’s a strong, effective headband that’s made of silicone or velvet and used to hold wigs in place.

Like the other methods I’ve mentioned previously, you also don’t need any other tool to hold your wig.

So, get a wig grip and place it around your head. Let it sit behind your hairline, then put on your wig. It should stay in place and lie flat on your head.

4. Gel

Gel

Gels are another tool you can use to lay your lace front flat without glue. This is a method that’s quite easy to use and keeps your natural hair safe from the harsh chemicals in adhesives.

Like you would when you want to apply any product, clean your hairline with rubbing alcohol. This will remove product buildup, dirt, sweat, and oil. Next, apply a good amount of gel to your hairline and wait for it to dry a bit. Once it becomes slightly sticky, press the lace onto it.

Placing your wig onto the gel while it’s still wet can make it slip.

Use a rattail comb to press the lace into the gel after it is sticky, then tie with a melting band. This should allow the lace to melt further. You can also press the lace down after the glue has dried with a hot comb.

Conclusion

It’s been a ride, won’t you say? I know. It’s sad to see your lace front lift after taking time to install. But with the steps I’ve listed, you can turn that situation in a blink of an eye (well, not literally).

So, follow them to fix your lifted lace front. You can also choose any other method that doesn’t require using glue if you want a faster way. They always come in handy at dire times. Like when you’re about to attend a meeting and your lace lifts, or when you’re heading to a gathering. These methods can be what you need for a quick result.

Quick tip though before I leave: Have your beauty tools in your bag. Smiles.
